Jason's application to college (part 2)

Jason applied to three colleges in total. Two really good ones and one that is a basic local college that will soon be certified as a state college. We have to wait until April to hear if he is accepted to the first two or not. Worst case scenario, if he has to go to the local college, I will not be crushed,
because he can live at HOME...

I absolutely refuse to do a post on empty nest syndrome.

I never posted the letter of recommendation I mentioned that his teacher wrote. Here it is:

As a freshman, Jason's sense of responsibility was noticable.
He always completed assignments on time, participated in class
discussion, and made more than satisfactory progress. He joined
the National Honor Society, for which I am a sponsor,
and performed exemplory service in our first fundraiser,
far exceeding his club-mates. He participated in the golf team,
obtained a varsity letter, and became very involved in Physics Club
and the Electric Car Rally. He was on the inaugural Academic Team
and excelled at math categories.
Still Jason always had time to volunteer for special NHS projects

(he heads up the chapter's Cystic Fibrosis annual Rock-a-thon
fund raiser),maintain his grades and service to the community,
and even stop by just to chat. He works two part time jobs and
attends extracurricular events at which we run into each other.
Jason is the proverbial kid every teacher
desires in abundance-
conscientious, successful,consistent.
DREW'S WARDROBE MALFUNCTION

Drew Barrymore recently appeared at the Golden Globes and well, as the picture indicates, she did not have a bra on. LOL. And they were not at their perkiest...
This resulted in a lot of unkind remarks from the press, but Drew had the last laugh this weekend, by going on SNL and poking fun at herself.
I think she handled the unfortunate boob embarrassment with humor and class. LMAO

BEAUTY

One of my goals is to stay as youthful as possible- inside and out.
Along with a regime of diet and exercise, which are key to affecting inner and outer beauty,
I am starting to focus more and more on skin care. I recently discovered a nice beauty secret,
well, not a secret, but enlightening to me. I was under the assumption that the costly moisturizers had to be the very best. I have definitely learned through trial and error that you typically get what you pay for...and many times it truly is the case that, when something costs more, there is a good reason for it. However, I was using an expensive under-eye treatment and moisturizer for a while and kept feeling disappointed with the results (or lack of). On a whim recently at a vitamin shop, I decided to buy some pure Vitamin E oil. ($5.99) Just to see.
I absolutely noticed improvements right away. You will no longer find me at the makeup counter buying those expensive (promising extreme results) products. I may research some of the ingredients in them, and then stick with what is naturally conducive to healthy skin....
Do you have any beauty tips to share?

CELEBRITY QUOTE OF THE DAY

The following words were spoken by Audrey Hepburn when she was asked what made a woman beautiful.

She replied,

1. For beautiful lips, speaks words of kindness

2. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people

3. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry

4. For beautiful hair, let a child run their hands through it

5. For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.

HER OFFICIAL SITE has alot of info on her. She was an admirable person, extremely involved with many worthwhile charities and causes. Her family members have continued charities on her behalf.

THE REALITY TEST

my results
Results of "The Test"
How realistic are you?Your score = 55

What does your score mean?
On the reality scale, you seem to lie somewhere between having your head in the clouds and keeping two feet firmly planted on the ground. You're able to face the writing on the wall in many situations, but in others you naively see things the way you prefer to see them. Perhaps experience has taught you that harvesting high hopes in certain areas of your life can lead to severe disappointment, so you've toned down your idealist tendencies. Being both a dreamer and a pragmatist is actually a positive thing - it's a healthy balance that allows you to shoot for the stars without becoming overly vulnerable. Allow yourself to dream big, just don't assume they will always come true.

We went to Medieval Times (dinner theatre) on Saturday. Remember the movie, The Cable Guy? Jim Carrey and Matthew Broderick went there in it. We've always wanted to go to it since seeing the movie. I got this picture there. (my head--fake body...teeheehee) I'll post Jason's and Dylan's picture later. They're hilarious. :)

Jason's Application to college

My baby boy is applying for college. That in itself is something I am very proud of. Not only of him, but of me, too. I never attended college. I was a teenage mom, and didn't really have the best of guidance growing up..... I resolved to raise him differently than I was, and intentionally instilled beliefs and values in him that, thank GOD, have come to fruition.

This is one of the essays he wrote from one of the applications. He was to share an experience through which he gained respect for intellectual, social, or cultural differences. He was limited to the amount of words.

In my sophomore year, our National Honor Society chapter went to the state convention. The guest speaker, a former state senator, talked about the importance of teaching and learning. I'll always remember what he told the assembly that night. He approached the microphone and begin to tell a story. It was about a king, who sent three knights out into the kingdom. Their task was to each bring back a worthy person to be rewarded for their profession. They returned, and brought with them three people of different social stature. One knight brought a doctor, and another brought a scientist. The third knight returned with an old woman. The king asked why each should be rewarded. The first knight said the doctor should, because he is skilled. The second knight said the scientist should also, because he is brilliant. The king then asked why the old woman was chosen, and the third knight replied, "This lady is their teacher." After the story, I realized the message the senator was trying to convey. Although the woman wasn't immediately recognized as intelligent or socially valuable as the doctor and scientist, as a teacher, she had inspired their minds and deserved the same respect.

http://www.colorquiz.com/

This is a psychological color quiz.

The accuracy of the results was very high for me, and I felt it was too personal for me to share.
I went back and took it several times and each time it seemed to hit on truths and insecurities in my life. Maybe it has the kind of results/answers that everyone can relate to, but it is definitely worth a look....or two.

Question of the day

What wise saying have you heard in your life that always stays with you?

Tuesday, January 03, 2006

We recently went to see :

Chronicles of Narnia -was really great. As good as the book. (The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe) It is the #1 movie right now at the box-office. Good prevails over evil. Who isn't happy with that? Rickey and I saw it and then brought the boys back and saw it again. Awesome family movie, with spiritual substance and depth.

King Kong -actually kept my interest. ( I usually hate those kind of movies) It started off a little slow, and I was groaning inwardly, thinking how long I was going to have to endure this, (3hrs 7mins) but it soon became entrancing .....full of passion, adventure and romance. The effects were outstanding.

Fun with Dick and Jane- was disappointing. I went to see it with an impression from the previews, that ended up not being what it was. It had an interesting plot, that didn't live up to its potential; middle class couple becomes armed robbers, while trying to "keep up with the Joneses". To me, it was one of those movies that put the best scenes in the previews..... I know it was a comedy, and I like Jim Carey, (who was definitely funny at times) but I wasn't able to become absorbed in the story and believe what was happening.

Resolutions

My main goal right now is to lose the weight.

This past year I have let myself down. I go to bed at night with so much resolve on how it will be starting tomorrow, the healthy food, excercise, etc.....and when tomorrow arrives and the day unfolds, my willpower eventually diminishes. I've done this before. I KNOW I can do it. I would really appreciate any inspirational tips. I read somewhere (and I completely agree) that: Nothing tastes as good as being thin looks.
If I keep that in mind and stay focused on it, along with being fit and healthy, I won't fail.
Question of the day:
What is a main goal you would like to achieve this year?
