My baby, Dylan, (15 year old baby) was recently invited to apply to become a member of the National Honor Society and found out today that he was accepted. :) Being invited is an honor, but it is still not a guarantee that you will be accepted as a member. The application is very lengthy and filled with many standards for acceptance. His older brother, Jason, was accepted at this age and Dylan wanted to follow in his brother's footsteps. He is very excited. :)

Today I went to get a pedicure and my eyebrows waxed; something I very rarely do. I usually do them myself, but they were in need of being manicured and I thought they would benefit from a professional doing them. You know, someone who does them everyday as part of their PROFESSION? So I was telling the lady I like them to be left as thick as possible, NOT thin. She said "Yes, I just clean them up". Soooo? Not only are they too thin, one of them is HIGHER than the other one!!!!
Rickey and Dylan assure me it isn't noticeable, especially since I wear bangs.

Footprints in the Sand

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,
other times there were one set of footprints.

This bothered me because I noticed

I have nothing in particular to blog about, but I feel like writing anyway. I'll just post some random happenings...

A deer ran- no, bounded in front of my car today. Not dangerously close and it was a rare sight to behold. I love seeing deer.
A weird happening, must be some sort of iPhone gimmick: On my photo album in my photos on my iPhone, which contains pictures you have snapped with the iPhone, there are three professionally shot pictures of a book. And by professionally shot, I mean no background, just a diagonal closeup of a book, repeated three times. Weird.
Title of book? "The Book Of Numbers...the secrets of numbers and how they created our world." I googled the book and started to read it on amazon, but was distracted and couldn't maintain interest. I'll check it out again later. Still a mystery as to how it got in my photo album.
It is so hot.
I'm tired from working hard yesterday.

Ok, so this week I have been bombarded...(well, not actually bombarded, I suppose. I'll have to look up the precise meaning of the word in a minute.) by a couple of different people sending me friend requests on myspace and facebook, who really have ulterior motives and aren't nearly as well meaning as they are trying to appear. Just looked up the word and essentially bombard means to attack. And yeah, I do feel somewhat attacked by it. My first instinct is always to try not to offend anyone. Ever. But, as I've journeyed through life, I've definitely learned that there are times when you absolutely have to offend. Anyway, without getting into the exact specifics, I'll get as close as I feel comfortable sharing. Person one only wanted to be my friend to spy on someone else. Pretty easy, pondering briefly on accepting the request and only mild cringing at hitting the 'ignore friend request' button. And then left with a sense of relief, along with the tiniest bit of guilt at possibly offending person one. Person two is a harder challenge. She first sends an out of the blue, lengthy message as if we are close friends, containing details about her life situation, along with good wishes and compliments to me. We are not friends. I was a little weirded out by the message and I responded politely and briefly, hoping that was the end of our correspondence. Then comes the friend request. Ugh. She totally just wants to spy. Big ulterior motives. It should be an easy decision to say no, but personal reasons make this one more complicated than that. Bottom line, I don't want to add her as a friend, but am sort of fretting the not offending part. I'm thinking...

I have a sitemeter, and I can see that in addition to random visitors, I still have a few regular visitors from specific areas that I can tell having been stopping by for a while. Some for years. This post shall be in PURPLE in honor of Prince. I wonder how long there will be sound on this video. Why might I wonder? Well... a little known fact is that Prince is extremely, extreeeeeemely stringent about having sole ownership of any and ALL of his music on the Internet. He somehow has the sound removed on any new music featuring him that people post. This includes videos, concert footage, television performances, cover bands, and even regular guys sitting in their living rooms paying tribute to a Prince song on their acoustic guitars. I recently discovered this while searching for Prince on youtube. What's absolutely comical is reading peoples' confused and angry comments, after they try to watch and there isn't any sound. "WHO DOES HE THINK HE IS?" "WHAT AN ASS!!!" and so on. I found this video and another one on google. Maybe he has no control there.
Anyway, I still love the dude's music. Purple Rain will always be my favorite album by him. :)

Today I had to go to my son's school and meet with the principal, school counselor, and a teacher about the possibility of moving him to another class. Dylan is a well mannered, straight A high school student in advanced classes, and we have only had to intervene in situations at school a few times- ever. This situation was regarding a literature class; more specifically a literature teacher. Without going into the details, I'll just say at this point, the situation has been resolved to my satisfaction. We've decided to leave him in the class, with all parties now fully aware of everyone's positions and expectations.
Funny side note- The principal looks just like Mr. Strickland from Back To The Future. Seriously....exactly like him. Thank goodness he doesn't act like him.

Last year I bought my first rental property from a kindly, well-to-do older couple (he owns his own law firm and she is a retired school superintendent). They understood that this was a new endeavor for me and sort of took on a parental role during the process of buying the house from them. They gave advice on dealing with tenants and expressed hope that I would take good care of the place, which is in the historical heart of the town; right off the main street, just behind a beautiful Victorian home. The original owner of the Victorian home built the three small houses directly behind his house for his children in the 1920's, as was fairly common in those days.
This post actually has nothing to do with the rental house, but I had to open it up somehow...

Anyway, the lady, I'll call her Robin, spoke of traveling around the globe to visit her children and grandchildren and just traveling in general. She also expressed how much she absolutely loved gardening and told me something I want to share.
Robin talked about traveling near Paris, France to the village of Giverny to visit the home and gardens of 19th century impressionist artist, Monet. She excitedly told me how beautiful and dreamy his painting inspired gardens are that surround the home, and how at one point during their visit, she told her husband that she wanted, no, she HAD to have some hollyhock seeds from his garden to take back to the states and plant at their home. :) (If you saw this couple, it makes this story even more amusing...think Jack Lemon and Holland Taylor) Robin said he truly attempted to talk her out of it, to no avail, and finally he turned his back and walked away saying, "I don't know you, I do not know you... We are not here together." She stuffed the seeds in her pockets and did indeed come back and plant them at her home where she proudly admires her secret connection to this artist. I think it's pretty awesome myself.

Hey there!
I just want to give a shout-out to my ~~millions~~ one or two or three readers out there. :)
When I started this blog, part of the initial attraction was the little thrill I felt at the thought of having my own audience to view and comment on my writing and my life. Well, at least the parts of my life that I was willing to put on display.
I sort of fancied it somewhat like having my own television show, starring me. Here I could be witty, vulnerable, and even show off some things I'm proud of in my life. I hoped to make some friends along the way. And I have.
The main attraction, though, was truly just having a creative outlet to express myself. A place where the limits were only those I imposed on myself. That's good, because my lack of consistent blogging has caused my readership traffic to dwindle to almost nothing. I think the very thing that appealed to me about having strangers peer into my life has also been a major deterrent from updating...

That being said, I am going to make an effort to blog more often. I am going to put things on here that may or may not be interesting to anyone except me. And I'm going to try not to care about the judgment of others. I do still hope people will stop by and even actually comment sometimes...hint hint.
Regardless, I'm going to blog because it is something I enjoy.

Earliest Memories

My earliest childhood memory stems back to when I was an infant, lying in my crib, waiting to be fed. Nah, just kidding. But there is a little story my mother tells me from when I was only a few days or weeks old...
It was time to feed me; I was in my baby bed, screaming my lil lungs out, and she was in the kitchen, sterilizing the bottles and heating the formula for me. My two year old brother ran into the kitchen, saying, "Mama, Mama, baby sisser is cryin'." My mother said, "I'm getting her bottle ready; you go talk to her and keep her company." My brother went to console me, and very soon my wailing diminished. My mom was thinking how sweet and absolutely precious it was that my brother had been able to distract me. She nearly fainted, though, when my brother suddenly came back in the kitchen, proudly carrying me and murmuring loving words of a two year old big brother. I was cooing now; quite content.
Chris had climbed up on a big baby bed with the rail all the way up; had somehow reached in and pulled me out of there (up, over, and down) and carried me across the house and into the kitchen. We have no idea if he dropped me at any point, dragged me, or if he was somehow strong enough to have managed it somewhat smoothly. My mom says I had no visible injuries and that I was no worse for wear. I cringe just thinking about it. :)
I think the real earliest memories I have are from about age three. I remember one house we lived in where I was no more than three; I had a plastic pool out back and I had a big wheel. My dad ran over my big wheel. I still have issues. haha
I remember a house soon after that, when I was still no more than three. It had sliding glass doors in the kitchen and we had a dog named Mike. There was a swing set in the back yard. This was the age when I claimed in all seriousness that The Three Bears had kept me (completely against my will) from coming when my mom called me. I guess I was extremely busy tasting their porridge or something like that.

I loooove my wall sconces. :) The candle light from them gives the house a warm and cozy feel. Tonight we lit the candles and also burned a candle that is scented "birthday cake". It smelled so yummy and I noticed there was a fall atmosphere in the air. My camera doesn't do it justice-sort of blurry-I had to put a setting on it that turned the flash off, because otherwise it looked like daylight and you couldn't see the natural glow from the candles.

I love this picture. I was thinking of putting it up there in my header because the spray can colors sort of make it seem as if I painted the 'Shari's Blog' title with them. I put it up there for a minute to see how it looked and my son, Dylan, thought it didn't quite look right, because it threw things off balance, putting the title to the right rather than being in the center like it is now. I may still insert it up there, but make it smaller. We'll see. I think I am always hesitant to make permanent changes, because I like to leave much of myself (on display) undefined....without constraint....limitless...ever changing... The great thing about having a blog though, is the fact that nothing has to permanent. I could leave it there for a day or a year. :)

And you have, as evidence, a recorded voicemail in which the defendant admits three times in it that he "knows he committed to you, but now has a tight budget and can't turn a blind eye to an unforeseen better deal ."

And a written transcript of the voicemail.

Apparently, when you have court at 9:00 PM with a harried female judge who receives not one, but two calls in the courtroom from her home during the trial... "I know...I'm hurrying. I'll be home soon. I'm on a drywall case." Obviously not giving full attention to the message and only glancing at the transcript, well, verbal contracts just aren't what they're cracked up to be.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this post. My cute little butterfly that I've had on this blog since the beginning is...is...is...just...*sniff*...somehow...has just gone away. If you don't remember my butterfly, well, it was a unique little animated sitemeter/statcounter that floated around my blog, just hanging out, counting my visitors. It made me happy (it's the little things). It always fluttered about quite naturally and seemed to consciously take in whatever post or picture it temporarily landed on.
Somehow it felt like it kept my blog company when I wasn't here, and was always hanging around here to greet me and others stopping by. I had even written tongue in cheek over on my sidebar, "does anyone see a butterfly flying...?" Well, today something seemed different here. Off.
What was it? Finally it hit me. I looked in my template area and saw everything was as it should be. Saw the code and the URL (softwarewings.com) that I had gotten it from, but it wasn't working on here anymore. How long had it been missing? I tried going to the site itself and it no longer exists. *sigh* Searched on Google to no avail. I felt that I had to acknowledge my little friend on here....and say farewell. Maybe it won't be forever. I still have hope.
